Liba Quarless
My name is Liba. I was born in Grenada and I am the 9th child out of 11 of which I am ecstatic about. As a child I was always involved in school activities such as recitation of poems, singing, and taking part in the school plays. I started my early childhood education in the village of Birch Grove in the parish of St Andrew. My first teacher was my oldest sister who started a pre school in the village. My younger siblings and I then transferred to the United States. I continued my education in the public schools in New York City. Upon graduation from High school, I attended Hunter College in New York city where I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Community Health. I am married and my husband and I are part of the United States military family. We have two daughters. I am a Certified Support Group Leader Facilitator for Dementia + mental illness and I also lead Education and awareness groups. I am also a mentor, a dancer, and a gardener. With over 25 years of experience, I have worked both locally and internationally to support communities as they develop and implement programs for the elderly, young adults, and children. Since 2005 I have returned to Grenada at least twice per year to work with the different nursing homes, educating them on the Dementia diseases and other workshops that help to empower Adult, youths and children in the community. While working at the different facilities, I assisted other coworkers, family members and clients to better understand and provide care for their loved ones in New York, United Kingdom and Grenada. I worked alongside medical providers and other coworkers to ensure medical compliance and served as the patients’ spokesperson. Right now, I am living my biggest dream of all, taking care of the elderly and just loving people.
